In Loving Memory of Phyllis Ann (Cowgill) Nessley
Phyllis Ann Nessley, a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on August 29th at the age of 78. Born on October 31st, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Gene Allen Cowgill and Phyllis Maxine Lloyd, she spent her formative years in Indianapolis and Columbus. She later graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in Columbus, Ohio, where she was part of the school's inaugural graduating class.
In 1965, she married David L. Nessley, beginning a journey that spanned 58 years of love and shared moments. She is survived by her husband David Nessley, children David Nessley Jr (Malinda), and Shellie Nessley (Cassinger, Robert), grandchildren Nicklaus Nessley (Rose), Brandon Demolot, Kalep Baylous, and Hunter Nessley. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Clark, Cecillia, Juliette, Miles, Harrison, and Blake. Sisters Judy Starr and Janet Lorenz, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis, affectionately known as "the director," possessed a remarkable talent for organization and leadership, endearing her to siblings and friends alike. She had a unique gift for baking delightful pies and crafting fudge that became legendary within her family. Her kitchen was a place of love and laughter, where cherished memories were created one delicious treat at a time.
A lover of music, Phyllis found joy in the melodies that graced her life. She cherished moments spent watching her grandchildren perform in the Berne Union Marching Band, their music becoming a soundtrack to her heart. These times were a testament to the love and pride she held for her family.
In her professional life, Phyllis worked at the American Greetings Card Company and Cody Beauty Supply, where she brought her trademark organizational skills and warmth to her colleagues.
Preceded in death by her parents and sister Marilyn Deckard, Phyllis's legacy lives on through her devoted family and friends who were touched by her warmth and spirit.
Visitation will be held on September 1st, from 5-8 PM at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 N. Columbus Street, Lancaster, Ohio. A funeral mass will take place on September 2nd at 10 AM in St. Joseph Church in Sugar Grove, Ohio, Fr. Tomson, Celebrant. Followed by burial at the Kirkersville Cemetery, Kirkersville, Ohio.
Phyllis's life was a testament to love, strength, leadership, and the sweetness of shared moments. As we bid her farewell, her memory will continue to inspire us in our own journeys.
