Art Carney, 90, of Wasilla, Alaska, passed away at Fairfield Medical Center on Thursday, November 11, 2025. Wayne Arthur Carney was born on July 4, 1935, to the late Lewis and Helen (Kinsel) Carney in New Lexington, Ohio.
Art graduated from Saint Aloysius School in 1953. He loved being a farmer and working with his goats and chickens. Art enjoyed writing, often writing philosophical pieces. He also participated as an actor in several community theatre programs. Art was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and had been sober for over 63 years at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his dear friend, the mother of his children, and ex-wife, Wanda Rogers; children, Greg Carney, Ben (Karen) Carney, Dora Jo (David) Kern, Gerald (Morgan Foster) Carney, and William “Bill” Carney; grandchildren, Jake (Sydney) Carney, Katie Carney, Karissa McNellis, Jarrod Carney, Rich (Michelle) Kern; great-grandchildren, Zyrah McNellis, M.J McNellis, Harlow Carney; sister, Sharon (Bob) Shahan; cousins, Bud and Aileen Carney, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family in Alaska.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Francis and Helen (Kinsel) Carney; son, Dennis Carney; grandchild, Andrea Carney; siblings, Fr. Thomas Carney, Richard “Dick” Carney, Dale Carney, Ned Carney, Barbara Teeter, Jean Boos, Ramona Schneider, Sue Stiles; daughter-in-law, Pat Carney; special friend, Owen Bradford, as well as extended family in Alaska.
Caring Cremation® has taken place through Frank E. Smith Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 1-5 pm at the New Lexington American Legion, 328 Elizabeth Street, New Lexington, OH 43764.
