Betty J. James, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on December 4th, 2023 in Lancaster, Ohio. She was born on July 2nd,1923 in Carroll, Ohio to her loving parents, Robert L. and Ina Ruth Sherrick. Betty had an incredible life filled with love, achievements, and cherished memories that will forever be treasured.

Betty spent a fulfilling career of 28 years at Sears and Roebuck as a Department Manager, where she dedicated herself to providing excellent service to the customers. Prior to that, she had worked at Anchor Hocking in their offices. Betty's commitment and dedication were evident in her work and earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues.

In 1941, Betty graduated from LHS where fate brought her together with the love of her life, Carl David James. They embarked on a beautiful journey together and were united in marriage for 66 blissful years until Carl's passing. Their love was truly special and served as an inspiration to all those around them.

Betty was not only passionate about her career but also cherished various hobbies and interests. She was actively involved in multiple organizations including the First English Lutheran Church, Eastern Star of Millersport, an advisor for the Rainbow Girls, and Thea Court Oriental Shrine. Betty found joy in meeting new people through these organizations and treasured the lifelong friendships she made along the way.

Despite achieving so much throughout her life, Betty's greatest joy came from being a devoted mother to her daughter Victoria "Vicki" Beery. Vicki was cherished beyond measure by Betty, and her unwavering love and support were the pillars of their bond. Betty took immense pride in her daughter's accomplishments, and they shared a special relationship that will forever be cherished.

In this difficult time, we honor Betty's memory by acknowledging the profound impact she had on her family and friends who survive her. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Carl David James, son-in-law Edwin Beery, brother and sister-n-law Carlton and Madge Sherrick, great granddaughter, Hope Grace Beery, her in-laws John and Nettie James, and her parents.

She is survived by her adoring grandchildren Teri (Jeff) Craiglow, Aaron (Stephanie) Beery, Brian (Lorrie) Beery, great-grandchildren Hannah (Chase) Runyon, Alexis and Aidan Craiglow, Noah and Brice Beery, Aubree, William and Emma Beery, great-great-grandchildren Brentlee and Bryar Runyon, as well as her nephew Dana Sherrick.

Betty J. James lived a life filled with love, kindness, and an unwavering zest for life. She was an incredible woman whose warmth touched the lives of many. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts as we celebrate the beautiful life she lived.

May she rest in eternal peace.

 

 

A funeral service will take place on Monday Dec. 11th at 10:30AM at First English Lutheran Church, 220 N. Columbus St. Lancaster, Ohio. Officiated by Rev. Brian Dillahunt. A burial will follow at Mt. Taber Cemetery.  Friends and family may call from 1PM-4PM Sunday, December 10th at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home. An Eastern Star Service will take place at 3:45PM Donations can be made in her name to First English Lutheran Church. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
