Charles E. McPherson 87 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at the Pickering House.
He was a World War II US Army veteran. He was a graduate of Ohio University in Physical Education and Industrial Arts. He was a retired educator for Ohio Youth Commission formerly B. I. S. and School for Boys with 38 years of service. He coached football, basketball, baseball, and track there. He was an industrial arts and shop instructor and ending his career as a vocational supervisor over 23 vocations. He was a high school football and basketball referee. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening and golf. He was a charter member of the Estate Club. Charles was a member of Sixth Avenue United Methodist Church.
Charles is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth J. McPherson; daughter, Nancy (Tim) Claypool of Lancaster, Ohio; grand puppy, Daisy Mae; sister, Dea Sue (Jim) Loofbourrow of Delaware, Ohio; brother, Donald (Sharon) McPherson of Logan, Ohio; many nieces, nephews, close friends, Bev and Willie Azbell of Georgia, Ike Hill, Maggie Pfaff, and Gloria Reid all of Lancaster, Ohio. A special thank you to Reba Wentz, staff at the Pickering House, Alternacare staff and Dr. Romaker for love and care of Charles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mildred McPherson, brother, Arthur McPherson, special uncle, Kenneth Smith, sister-in-law, Marjorie Sowards, and niece, Carol Kaye.
A private graveside service will be held at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Baltimore VFW Post 3761 conducting military rites at the cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130.
