Daniel “Dan” L. Griffin, 78, died Saturday, July 4, 2026 at the Pataskala Oaks Care Center.
Dan was born in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Robert L. Griffin and Frieda (Turben) Todhunter on February 3, 1948. He graduated from Lancaster High School class of 1968. Dan went on to attend the Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He was a former member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption church in Lancaster. Dan served in the Marines from 1968-1972, in the Vietnam war, during that time he was awarded a bronze star and two purple hearts. He was a former VFW Commander. In addition to being a member of the Freemasons, Dan was a longtime member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. Dan had a passion for sports, he enjoyed watching the Gators, the Cleveland Browns, and OSU football. He officiated football for several years, and was a member of the National Association of Sports.
Dan is survived by his daughter Shannon (Robert) Hudnall; grandchildren Peyton Whalen and Victoria (Kalin Deskins) Hudnall; brother Carl (SallyAnn Davidson) Todhunter; partner of several years Nancy Capretta; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Ronald Lewis Griffin, John M. Todhunter, III, Carolyn Phillips, and Robin McGatha; and many other family members.
