Baltimore - David Lee Wolfel, 81, died peacefully in his home on Monday, November 10, 2025.
He was born on November 6, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio to Joseph and Muriel Wolfel. He graduated from Mifflin High School in 1963. He enlisted in the Air Force to train for the Military Police and was sent to Okinawa for 18 months. He returned home and married his High school sweetheart, Martha Stevens. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in July.
David served his country in the Air Force, Air Force Reserves and the Ohio Air National Guard for over 30 years, spending time in Hawaii, Costa Rica, Panama and Bahrain during Desert Storm. He retired from the National Guard in 1991 as a Master Sergeant. He served as a police officer for over 50 years, including time in the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Minerva Park Police Department and the Baltimore, Ohio Police Department, where he served as the Police Chief for 10 years.
David is survived by his wife Martha; his children David (Mindi) Wolfel, Steven (Amy) Wolfel and Mandi Griffin; grandsons Dylan, Collin (Brittany), Chance, Storm and Aaren Wolfel and Nicholas and Landon Griffin; great granddaughter Sutton Wolfel.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Muriel Wolfel.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Johnson-Smith Funeral Home, 207 S. Main St., Baltimore, Ohio 43105. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Caring Cremation® to follow.
