Evelyn VanCamp of Lancaster, OH passed away on August 8, 2024 at the Pickering House. Evelyn was born in Bayard, NE on June 25, 1942 to the late John Wilber and Shirley (Devore) Willey.
Evelyn met her late husband Paul when he noticed her, and her red Chevy convertible, as she was crossing the street to her teaching position in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the same city where Paul started his first Culligan dealership. She knew that he was the one, and they spent the next 52-years sharing many adventures together.
Evelyn received her Associates Degree in Elementary Education from Hiram Scott College. She would then teach at Longfellow Grade School in Scottsbluff, Nebraska where she taught Paul’s sons, Gary and Bruce, prior to meeting and marrying their father in 1963.
In 1964, the family packed up and left Nebraska for Lancaster. Here, Evelyn would have a wonderful life helping Paul raise his two sons and build a life, and businesses, they were both immensely proud of.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved every aspect of this role. She looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and instilled in them a love for faith, family and fun. Evelyn enjoyed spoiling them when they came to visit and always made Christmas something to remember!
Left to cherish her memory are; daughter-in-law, Linda VanCamp; grandchildren, Kara (Jason) Steik, JP VanCamp, Austin (Lauren) VanCamp, Kimberly (Bryan) Sisto and Alyssa VanCamp, Evelyn took great pride in the fact that she was able to watch several great-grandchildren come into her life including Caleb, Brayden, Alexis, and Paisley Steik, Emerson and Jaxson Van Camp, Ames and Holden Sisto and namesake, Evelyn VanCamp. She is also survived by niece and nephews Carolyn (John) Annen and Richard McDaniel (Cyndi), Boyd, Shawn, Eric and Justin Willey.
In her spare time, Evelyn enjoying golfing at the Lancaster Country Club. She did so well that after she won the club championship, she received a letter from the LPGA asking her to join. Something she never forgot. In November 2021, Evelyn became one of 26 local citizens to invest in the Lancaster Country Club now known as Lancaster Golf Club.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, husband Paul E. VanCamp, sons Gary VanCamp and Bruce VanCamp, sisters Beverley McDaniel and Lorraine Willey and brother Clinton Willey and nephews Wade and Lee Willey and Don McDaniel.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 222 N Broad St, Lancaster, OH 43130, with Pastor Nathan Loudon officiating. The family will have visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Lancaster.
