Evelyn Louise (Jones) Fair

December 20, 1936 — October 17, 2023

Lancaster

Evelyn Louise Fair, age 86, went to be with her Lord on October 17, 2023, surrounded by her loving family and following several years of declining health. She was born on December 20, 1936, to Clarence Sheldon and Elizabeth Grace (Stimler) Jones, in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Tallmadge High School in 1955, and went on to study at Hamilton College of Business for a secretarial certificate.  After graduation, she was employed by General Tire and Rubber in Akron, Ohio.

In 1955, she met Daryl Eugene Fair at Stoneboro Wesleyan Methodist Youth Camp, and they wed in March of 1957. Daryl’s military career took them to Reno, NV, Charleston, SC. and Spokane, WA.  Daryl and Evelyn were founding members of the Columbus Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist church.  When Evelyn passed, she was a member of the Hartville Wesleyan Methodist church and in recent years attended the Zanesville Bible Methodist church.

Evelyn retired from the Columbus Public Schools where she worked as a student nutrition manager for many years.

Daryl and Evelyn were blessed with five children: Daniel Mark (Tammy), Melodie Darlene (and beau, David Bruss), Thomas David (Honey Bobsin), Marcia Louise (Don) Bohn, and Elizabeth Marie (Darrell) Cox.

Evelyn’s highest priorities were God, her husband and her children.  Evelyn gave her heart and life to Jesus Christ when she was six years old.  She faithfully served her Savior the rest of her life. Evelyn was a cheerleader for all of her children, supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives, and yet a strong disciplinarian at the same time.  She and Daryl created a Christian home for the family and were faithful to be in the house of the Lord whenever the doors were open.

Evelyn dearly loved babies and children throughout her life and her fondest memories were of being a mother to her children. Her hobbies were singing, piano, sewing, and home making.  She took a painting class in her 50s and really enjoyed discovering that she had a hidden talent for it.  Evelyn was an example of a Proverbs 31 woman, conducting business for her family, making the children’s clothing, preparing their meals and supporting her husband.  She and Daryl warmly hosted many missionaries, pastors, and international students and friends in their home.

“Her children arise and call her blessed.”

Evelyn served in the Wesleyan Methodist church as Sunday School teacher, women’s missionary president, church treasurer and pianist for many years.

Evelyn’s wisdom, understanding, love, and Godly example will be greatly missed. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Clarence (Sonny) and Mary Sue Jones, brother-in-law, Donald Lee Fair, and granddaughter, Katherine Ann Fair-Clevenger. She is survived by her children; grand children Daniel “Mark” II (Jordan) Fair, Earl Clevenger, Stephen (Tara) Fair, Jessica Fair, Zachary (Haleigh) Fair, Nathan (Beth) Bohn, Aaron (Christina) Bohn, Gregory “Ryan” (Amanda) McGehee, 22 great grandchildren, many nephews, nieces, “adopted” children, and former daughter-in-law, Linda Jarvis.
