Gary R. Wilson, 77, of Baltimore, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 3, 2025. Gary was born on April 2, 1948, and was the second of three children born to Raymond and Louise (Lowery) Wilson.
Gary was a 1966 graduate of Lancaster High School and Ohio University. He was employed at Anchor Hocking and Stuck Mold after graduation. Gary, along with his business partner Jeff Robinson, built a successful finishing carpentry business and took great pride in his workmanship and skill.
Gary’s life’s work, though, was as a farmer. Gary, with his wife Ada (Graham) Wilson, first bought their farm in 1971, and would acquire additional property throughout the years. Any time you needed to find Gary, he was either in his barn or in the field. It was his land and his animals that were his calling. He loved gardening and sharing his produce.
Gary also served his community, working decades at the Fairfield County Fair, helping on the property throughout the year, especially barn painting and completing the daily electrical collections during the fair itself. He also played a large role and volunteered many hours assisting with the restoration of the Davis Auditorium at the Fairfield County Campgrounds.
Gary is survived by Ada, his wife of 56 years, sister Nancy Bailey, son Eric Wilson (Suzanne Rodriguez), daughter Jill (David) Henwood, grandsons Tyler, Trevor, Travis, Joshua, and Nicholas, great grandchildren Avery, Devin, and Jameson, and nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Cherryl Wilson, his in-laws Carl and Gladys Graham, and his brother-in-law Robert Bailey.
Calling hours will be Wednesday May 7th from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home with funeral services on Thursday at 10:30. Burial will follow at Greenfield Twp Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fairfield County Antique Tractor Club 4585 Crumley Rd. SW. Lancaster, OH 43130 or to the Baltimore Downtown Restoration Committee for renovations to the Victoria Opera House at PO Box 74 Baltimore, OH 43105.
