Gregory Lynn Gossett, 71, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away with his wife and sons by his side on April 9, 2026. He was born on June 13, 1954, the second son of Robert Loyal Gossett and Nancy Jean Gossett (Upp). Greg was a member of and baptized at First English Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Melinda Gossett (Ball); his sons, Brian Gossett and Michael Gossett; his grandson, Jack Gossett; his brother, Robert Gossett; his niece and nephew, Erynne Hamilton (Gossett) and Robert Gossett; his sisters-in-law, Tolli Gossett (Buchanan) and Brenda Kilbarger (Ball); and his daughters-in-law, Dallas Gossett (Rienchield) and Brianna Gossett (Keil).
Greg was a 1972 graduate of Lancaster High School, where he was a proud member of the Band of Gold, playing the French horn in the marching band and the violin in the orchestra. He went on to graduate in 1977 from Ohio University, which he fondly referred to as the “Harvard on the Hocking.”
On October 23, 1982, Greg married the love of his life, Melinda, beginning a partnership that would define and enrich the rest of his days. Together, they shared a deep, unwavering bond—a love that grew stronger with each passing year. Their journey together was marked by laughter, adventure, and countless memories, and Greg often spoke of how truly blessed he felt to have Melinda by his side in both good times and hard times. Their love story will forever be one of the most cherished aspects of Greg’s legacy.
For 40 years, Greg worked as a manufacturing representative in the paper and packaging industry, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Early in life, Greg enjoyed motorcycles, swimming, boating, live music, and playing golf with friends. Later, he found joy in collecting and listening to vinyl records and spending time outdoors gardening. Birdwatching became a daily activity, and he kept lists of the species that visited his many feeders year after year. Most of all, Greg treasured spending time with his only grandson, Jack Gregory Gossett.
Throughout his life, Greg visited Cape Hatteras with friends, a tradition that later became a cherished family getaway. He loved fishing in the ocean—whether from a pier, deep-sea excursions, or simply from the surf. These moments by the water brought him peace and joy.
Greg was known for his sharp wit and clever sense of humor, always able to bring laughter to any situation. But when it came to business, he was the epitome of professionalism and dedication. Above all, Greg was an amazing father who set an extraordinary example for his two sons, Brian and Michael. Through his guidance, love, and unwavering support, they grew into exceptional men, carrying forward the values he instilled in them. His legacy is one of love, strength, and integrity—traits that will live on through his family and all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield County Park District, 9270 Pickerington Rd. Pickerington, OH 43147, in his memory.
