Gwendolyn Mae Shahan

Gwendolyn Mae (Hargus) Shahan, “Gwen”, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

She was born on September 12, 1933 in Colfax, Ohio to the late Otha and Evis (McClain) Hargus. Gwen was a graduate of Lancaster High School, class of 1951. Gwen was married to Robert E. “Bob” Shahan from August 1953 until his passing in 2019.

Gwen enjoyed traveling in previous years, including vacations to Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and many times to Florida. She remained busy throughout her life with family and friends, enjoying her card club, dining out, and being active in TWIG 2. Gwen was one of the longest-serving members of TWIG 2, with almost 40 years of membership. She also continued to manage her rental properties until her passing.

Gwen is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Michael) Brinkmann; son, Mike (Stephanie) Shahan; grandchildren, Lauren and Derek (Mikaela) Brinkmann and Nicholas (Brandy) Shahan; great-grandchildren Bentley and Bayliee Shahan, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, brother Marvin Hargus, and granddaughter Nicole Shahan.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 30, 2026 in the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 N. Columbus St., Lancaster, OH 43130, with Pastor Rick Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may visit from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
