James "Tom" Orr

December 20, 1949 — July 23, 2025

Vandalia, Oh

James "Tom" Orr, a towering figure of charm and tenacity, soared through life like a vibrant comet, illuminating the paths of all who had the privilege to know him. Born in the sun-kissed haven of Miami, Florida, on December 20, 1949, Tom embarked on a journey that would see him touch countless lives both personally and professionally.

As a salesman, he was nothing short of extraordinary. With an unparalleled ability to captivate, he could sell a ketchup popsicle in the sweltering summer to a lady adorned in white gloves. His career began at Philip Morris, but his relentless spirit soon led him into the world of industrial sales, culminating in the establishment of his own enterprise, "Allied Industrial Sales." Here, as both owner and operator, Tom merged business acumen with his signature humor and exuberance—qualities that endeared him to everyone he encountered.

Tom's life was a thrilling adventure, mirroring the adventurous soul that resided within him. He embraced his youth with a zest for the unpredictable, riding dirt bikes and pursuing any heartbeat-quickening experience that could ignite his spirit. Even in the face of adversity, he was an image of resilience; he often mended his own wounds, ones that would likely send most rushing to a surgeon, with little more than tape—his strength veiling any discomfort behind a mask of stoic bravery.

His proudest accomplishments were not found solely in business but rooted deeply in his family. He leaves behing his son Jonathan (Jordyn) Orr and his daughter, Michelle (Alek) Steman. Also the light of his life shone brightest in the eyes of his grandchildren—Jaxson and Sopiha Orr, and Beckett, Collyns, and Harper Steman—each grandchild a unique thread in the rich tapestry of love he wove around him. They could do no wrong in his eyes, and he reveled in thier times of joy and laughter.

Tom was a devoted Navy veteran who served honorably during the Vietnam War, a period that forged a resilience within him that would last a lifetime. He approached every challenge with the same indomitable spirit that characterized his military service, an unwavering determination that his family admired greatly.

Tom's affection extended beyond his immediate family to his beloved siblings, Dan (Betty) Orr and Carol (Larry) Byrum, along with the joyful chaos brought by several cherished nieces and nephews, all of whom were drawn into his magnetic orbit.

He departed this world on July 23, 2025, at the age of 75, leaving a wake of cherished memories, laughter, and love in the hearts of those who knew him. Tom’s parents, Norva and Phyllis Aller Orr, await his joyful reunion, but until then, his legacy continues to thrive in the tales shared, the laughter echoed, and the lessons of life he imparted.

Tom Orr lived fully and left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. His spirit dances on, a vibrant reminder of a life well-lived.

As per his request, Caring Cremation has taken place through the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home in Lancaster. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.  Donations to help Tom's lasting legacy continue on will be towards Tom's grandchildren's college fund and can be directed to he family currently.  Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
