Janet Wagner, a cherished member of her community and beloved matriarch, passed away on November 21, 2025, at Bickford of Lancaster. Born on June 10, 1931, in Lancaster, Ohio, Janet lived a life dedicated to her family, her career, and her many passions.
As a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church, Janet found strength and fellowship throughout her life. Her educational journey culminated at The Ohio State University, where she gained the knowledge that would support her successful career as a retired medical technician for the State of Ohio. Janet's commitment to her profession, alongside her compassionate nature, left a lasting impact on those she served.
Janet was not only dedicated to her work but also to the myriad of hobbies and interests that filled her life with joy. She was an avid gardener, a skill she eagerly shared with those around her. Her love for sewing resulted in countless homemade gifts that delighted her family. Janet had a particular fondness for bird watching and camping, embracing the beauty of nature with every opportunity. She traveled to all 50 states, creating cherished memories along the way, and she and her husband took pride in building their own home.
Family was everything to Janet. She is survived by her daughter, Charlsie (Tom) Green of Angola, Indiana; her son, Wesley (Tyra) Wagner of Lancaster; and her grandchildren: Sarah (Tom) McCafferty, Mary Kathryn (Jon) Smith, Matthew Wagner, Zachariah (Jessica) Green, Timothy Wagner, Mary Rose Wagner, Isaac Wagner, and Susanna Shingler. Her great-grandchildren, Anna Wagner, Annelise Wagner, Elizabeth Shingler, Steven Shingler, Juliet Shingler, and Augustus Jonathan Smith, were a source of immense pride and joy for her. Janet also leaves behind her sister, Chloe Ann Morgan of Georgia, along with nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Wagner, with whom she shared 71 incredible years. She was further preceded by her infant daughter, Elizabeth Ann Wagner, her parents Emmett J. and Mary V. Wilson, and her brother, Larry Wilson. Janet's legacy of love and dedication to family will continue to resonate in the hearts of the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Caring Cremation has taken place by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, LANCASTER, OHIO. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
