Jerry Cook

Jerry Cook, 90 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Pickering House. He was born March 31, 1933 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Fred W. and Edna F. Cook.

He served in the US Navy Reserves and was retired from Ohio Bell as a manager with over 40 years of service.

Jerry’s faith was an important part of his life which he fulfilled as a pillar at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He was an active member in the Lancaster Tarhe Lions Club where he received the Citizen of the Year Award in 2010.  He was also a member of American Legion Post #11. Jerry had a passion for the Boy Scouts of America and was active for over 50 years in Troop 240. He held many positions including Scoutmaster. He received the prestigious Silver Beaver Award in 1998.  He had a love for the great outdoors. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan was his favorite camping destination. He enjoyed playing golf for fun and in various benefit tournaments.

A master craftsman, one of his favorite hobbies was building intricate model ships and airplanes.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Donna; sons, Gary (Cynthia) Cook of Lancaster, Ohio and Greg (Sally) Cook of Pickerington, Ohio; grandchildren, Sarah Cook and Alex (Ashley) Cook; step-grandchildren, Jay Darfus and Stuart Darfus; great grandson, David Thomas and nieces Debbie Henderly and Jana DiDomenico.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Larry Cook and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Wilda Heft.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, June 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Diana K. Gugel officiating. Friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Caring Cremation® has taken place by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, LANCASTER, OHIO 43130.
