John H. Gilmer, of Baltimore, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, in at the age of 74. Born on January 3, 1952, in Lancaster, John was a lifelong resident whose life was defined by hard work and a love of the outdoors.

John dedicated himself to his work throughout his life and found his greatest happiness in the simple pleasures of nature. He loved spending time hunting and fishing, often enjoying the quiet solitude of the outdoors where he felt most at peace and at one with nature. He also had a passion for gardening, taking great pride in growing beautiful flowers and tending to his garden.

John was an avid harness racing fan and especially looked forward each year to attending the Little Brown Jug. Some of his favorite memories were made at the horse track, and he and his wife Rose, enjoyed traveling together to Kentucky to watch horse races, creating many cherished moments along the way.

John is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Rose M. Gilmer, who was his partner and friend throughout their marriage. He also leaves behind his son, Chad C. Sims, whose life and accomplishments were a constant source of pride.

John's legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Braden Powers, Wyatt L. Sims, Mykaela O'Brien, Gavin Sims, Emilee Rowles, Addyson Sims, and Madison Clum, as well as several great-grandchildren. Each brought him joy and held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mary Gilmer, and his sister, Linda Lutz. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Those who knew John will remember him as a hardworking, dependable man with a quiet strength and a deep appreciation for life's simple blessings. Whether tending his flowers, casting a fishing line, sitting in the woods, or enjoying a day at the races, John found happiness in the moments that mattered most.

In accordance with John's wishes, a private burial will take place at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, with arrangements entrusted to the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home.

John H. Gilmer will be remembered for his strength and the peaceful spirit he found in nature. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the countless lives he touched throughout his 74 years.
