Jonathan Stuart Palestrant, 48, of Carroll, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on October 11, 2026. Born on October 31, 1977, Jon lived a life centered on the people he loved, the family legacy he proudly carried forward, and the community he called home.
Jon was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, and friend. His quick wit and natural charm warmed the hearts of those who knew him, and his presence made time together brighter and more memorable.
A third-generation jeweler and gemologist, Jon began attending jewelry trade shows at just 12 years old. He graduated from Lancaster High School with the Class of 1996 and from the Gemological Institute of America in 1998. A GIA Graduate Gemologist Jeweler and American Gem Society Certified Gemologist Appraiser, he was well known and respected throughout the jewelry industry for his knowledge, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality.
Jon became the owner of Wendel’s Diamond Jewelers, working alongside his beloved wife, Stephanie, and continuing a family tradition within a Lancaster business with a 120-year history. Wendel’s was more than a business to Jon; it was his life’s work and the only job he ever had. He took tremendous pride in helping people celebrate their most meaningful milestones and in serving the community that had supported the business for generations.
Above every professional accomplishment, Jon’s greatest pride and joy was being a father to Paige,Tori and Mason. He was the best sports dad around, always there for volleyball and baseball, cheering on his children and ready to lend a hand. He valued being present, showing up, and sharing in the moments that mattered to them. Through those everyday acts of love and encouragement, he made sure his children knew how deeply they were loved.
Jon treasured time with family and friends. Whether planning a vacation or heading out on a spontaneous weekend getaway, he welcomed any opportunity for an adventure with the people he loved. His family was his world, and the memories they made together will remain among their most precious gifts.
Jon is survived by his loving and caring wife of 20 years, Stephanie Palestrant; his children, Paige, Victoria "Tori", and Mason Palestrant; his father, Stuart (Lucinda) Palestrant; his mother, Sharon J. Williams; his sister, Mary L. (James) Grant; his parents-in-law, Joe (Grace) North; his sister-in-law, Tara (Ron) Street; and his brother-in-law, Joe North III. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members; and many dear friends, including the sports families who shared so much of his life.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Helen Palestrant, M. Louise Williams, and James W. Williams, a World War II veteran; his uncles, Kenneth “Kenny” Palestrant and Lewis D. Hacquard; and his sister-in-law, Reneé North.
Jon’s greatest legacy is the family he loved, the friendships he cherished, and the lives he touched along the way. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and remembered every time his family gathers, shares a laugh, or sets out on another adventure.
Calling hours and a funeral service will take place at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 N. Columbus St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130 and will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made at Huntington Bank to benefit Jon’s children, Paige, Mason, and Tori.
