Karl Edwin Grube, 82 of Baltimore, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 26, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio to the late John Paul and Helen Mae Grube.
Karl is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Judith; daughters Karyl (Eric) Whittington and Joyce Grube; son Greg (Dawn) Grube; grandsons, Jared (Sara) Whittington, Nicholas Whittington, and step-granddaughters, Misha and Jane Dickman; great grandchildren, Payson, Walker, and Granger Whittington; brothers, Don (Rosemary) Grube, Ray (Mollie) Grube, sisters Betty (Theodore) Long and Janice McSorley; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Karl was a lifetime farmer and recognized as a Fairfield County Outstanding Young Farmer by the Lancaster Jaycees and an Ohio Outstanding Young Farmer by the Ohio Young Farmer’s Association. He was a lifelong Lutheran and charter member of Faith Lutheran Church of Baltimore, Ohio. Karl was a graduate of Groveport High School class of 1959 where he served as FFA president. He was very active in many farm organizations, including Farm Bureau Council #18, Landmark Board of Directors, Canal Winchester Young Farmers, and served on the Farm Credit Advisory Committee. In 2017, Karl and his family hosted the Fairfield County 4H Legacy dinner with close to 300 people attending. They also hosted state and national farm tours through the years.
Karl cared deeply about the value of land and all it could produce. Whether harvesting corn and soybeans or pecans from his backyard tree, he could grow just about anything and loved sharing his pecans with family and friends. He was a natural born entrepreneur of all things farming. He was a mastermind of many farm innovations. Karl loved building and fixing things; always striving for a better way of working on the farm. Throughout his life he remained a Case-IH man and enjoyed collecting antique tractors with his son. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing puzzles, and tractor pulling in his younger years. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren but never quit until the harvest was complete.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 2-4pm or 6-8pm at Johnson-Smith Funeral Home, 207 South Main Street, Baltimore, Ohio 43105. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11am at Faith Lutheran Church, located at 990 South Main Street, Baltimore, Ohio 43105 with Pastor Jill Dunlap and Pastor Diana Gugel officiating. Caring Cremation will follow the service.
