With Jesus in his heart, Miomaru “Mio” Sugimoto passed away on December 1, 2023, at the incredible age of 100, at Altercare in Thornville, OH.

Born in California, he helped raise his 8 siblings. After Pearl Harbor, he and his family were relocated to an internment camp in Arkansas. Then, he served in the US Army during WWII. Mio was a Judo and boxing champion. He lived in Lancaster OH for over 54 years and attended Pleasant Chapel Church of God.

He was a Christian and believer of the Bible. Everything he did was for the family. He led his family and others to Jesus. Always wanted his children to accompany him to the store, where he taught them how to select the best fruits and vegetables and how to buy the best deals. He kept the family healthy by sharing his passion of health foods and vitamins. His hobby was organic farming, including growing Asian vegetables.

Mio tirelessly supported the family by working as a Poultry Technician in Danville and McArthur. He would say: “We weren’t rich, but we lived rich.”

He never knew a stranger and he would talk to anyone about anything.

Survived by his wife of 65 years, Shizuko Sugimoto, and children Emi (John) Swope, Ginny (Joe) Armstrong, and Thomas (Tsuey Ping Num) Sugimoto, and six grandchildren.

Heartfelt thanks go out to the caring and loving staff of Altercare, Fairhope Hospice, Hospice of Central Ohio, and friends and neighbors.

A private graveside service will take place on December 5.
