Nancy E. Buehler

April 25, 1930 — April 23, 2024

Columbus

Nancy E. Buehler, aged 93, of Ohio Living Westminster Thurber in Columbus, Ohio, passed away on April 23, 2024. Nancy was a retired individual and a devoted member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

Throughout her life, Nancy was a beacon of love and resilience, navigating the joys and challenges with unwavering grace. She was preceded in death by her three beloved husbands, Dermot J. Schnack, Richard A. Buehler, and P. Tennyson Williams, as well as her parents Stephen Young and Lillian Mishey (Smith), and her brother G. William Young.

Nancy is survived by her loving children, Therese Essig (Stephen), Andrew Schnack, Susan McKnight (Jonathan), and Matthew Schnack (Jennifer), along with her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart.

Born 94 years ago, she embarked on a journey filled with adventure, laughter, and a deep love for those she held dear. From her early days as a secretary to her later career as a home economics teacher and daycare director, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to nurturing and educating others, leaving an enduring impact on generations of students and children.

It was not just in her professional life that she excelled; it was in the richness and diversity of her hobbies and interests that she truly shone. A true Renaissance woman, she pursued a myriad of passions with gusto and enthusiasm, leaving no stone unturned in her quest for knowledge and experience.

From her musical talents, which spanned the trumpet, piano, guitar, dulcimer, and drums, to her involvement in the Grandparents’ Living Theater, drum circle, and female barbershop quartet, she delighted in the joy of creativity and performance. Whether she was donning the guise of Twinkle the Clown, folk dancing, tap dancing, or singing, she brought a smile to the faces of all who had the pleasure of witnessing her artistry. Her talents did not end there. She was also a skilled artisan, crafting beautiful jewelry and pottery, sewing with precision and care, and mastering the intricacies of screen printing. Her love for puzzles challenged her mind, while her entrepreneurial spirit led her to sell Discovery Toys and share her passion for learning with others through swim lessons.

Her thirst for knowledge knew no bounds, as evidenced by her mastery of American Sign Language and her insatiable curiosity about the world around her. She traveled far and wide, exploring the beauty of the United States from Alaska to Hawaii and venturing to distant lands such as the United Kingdom, Guatemala, Germany, Greece, and the Caribbean.

As a teenager, she fearlessly rode horses and competed in barrel racing, embracing the thrill of adventure with courage and determination. Even in her later years, she continued to push the boundaries of possibility, learning to cross-country ski and attempting to water ski, never letting age dampen her spirit of adventure.

Her collections of buffalo and clown memorabilia reflected her eclectic tastes and served as tangible reminders of her zest for life and her love of the unique and unexpected.

Today, as we bid farewell to our beloved Mom, Mamaw, Grand-Mamaw, neighbor, and friend, let us not mourn her passing but celebrate the extraordinary life she lived. May her boundless energy, infectious laughter, and unwavering spirit inspire us to embrace each day with the same enthusiasm and joy that she brought to everything she did.

Rest in peace, Nancy. Your legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will live on in our hearts forever.
