Paul E. Schoonover

Paul E. Schoonover, 78, of Berlin, passed away on August 4, 2025. He was born in Aurora, IL on April 14, 1947.

Paul was a 1965 graduate of New Trier High School East. He loved growing up near Lake Michigan where he was a lifeguard along the beach. After graduating high school, he attended Miami University and then received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati. Paul practiced law for 35 years. Along with his best friend Tom, Paul created a comprehensive map called “The Map of Ohio’s Amish Highways and Byways”, and “The Furniture Book”. Paul enjoyed his time in Ohio’s Amish Country, where he felt like he was on always on vacation. He was known as “Mr. Adventure” and enjoyed snow skiing, hiking, bicycling, and traveling the world.

He is survived by his wife aka “Lovee”, Stephanie L. Hoisington; daughter, Kristen R. Schoonover; son, Nicholas Harteau; grandson, Henry Ventura; siblings, Nancy (Gary) Bartholomew, Don (Aey) Schoonover, and Christi (Frank) Tenczar; and many close friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Alice Schoonover; best friend, Tom McFarlane; and French “Girlfriend”, Celine.
