Phyllis M. Fundermark, of Lancaster, Ohio, formerly of Conneaut, Ohio, was called to eternal life on October 20, 2021, at age 92. She was born in Painesville, Ohio and was raised in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. After graduating from high school, Phyllis attended Ohio State University.
In 1948, Phyllis married Elmer Fundermark after eloping to New York City. Phyllis and Elmer were married for 72 years until Elmer’s death on August 21, 2021.
In 1998, Phyllis and her husband relocated to Lancaster, Ohio to enjoy their retirement years after residing in Conneaut, Ohio where they raised their family.
Phyllis was a homemaker and focused her energy upon her faith and her family. Phyllis was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lancaster, Ohio. Her past church-related activities include directing the children’s church choir, constructing church banners, quilting ministries, and women’s circles. Phyllis was an avid seamstress, quilter, and knitter. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. In her later years, Phyllis enjoyed her responsibilities as a docent at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio.
Phyllis is survived by her three daughters, Jane (Roy) Hart of Lancaster, OH, Lori (John) Crossmock of Springfield, IL, and Ellen (Thad) Smith of Marietta, GA. Phyllis is also survived by six grandchildren, Bethany (Matthew) Lambert, Stephen (Jocelyn) Hart, Cheryl (Patrick) Marynowski, Linda (Charles) Riley, Zachary (Deremier) Smith, Alyssa Smith, and nine great grandchildren. Phyllis is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Uno and Velma Erkkila, and her sister, Charlene Hill.
Caring Cremation® has taken place by the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, Lancaster, Ohio 43130. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Inurnment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster, Ohio. Friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
