Phyllis A. Richards finished her long pilgrimage of pain on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, after battling for many years.
Phyllis was a long-time employee of Behrens Insurance Agency and was formerly employed by Matt Insurance Agency and was secretary to the District Superintendent of the Newark District of the United Methodist Church. She was a former member of: the Board of Trustees of the Lancaster Camp Ground, the Board of Trustees of Fairfield Council on Literacy, and the Lancaster First United Methodist Church. She was also a licensed Lauback Tutor and licensed insurance agent in both property and casualty as well as life and health.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Eric (Elizabeth) Richards and Nathan (Melissa) Richards; grandchildren, Kristi (Joshua), Ryan, Justin, Zane, and Emily; great grandchildren, Graci, Macee, Micaiah, Anaya, Caleb, Ezra, Ezekiel, and Nash; brother, Tom (Nan) Tussing of Connecticut; “adopted daughter”, Diana Rose; “adopted son”, Jay Sharp; personal friend, confident and doctor, Dr. Douglas Pope who made it possible for me to take my journey as long as I did. He was like another son to me and will be forever instilled in my heart. Thank you, Doug, for your undying care and concern for myself and my health.
She is preceded in death by her son, Christopher; daughter, Valerie Ann; sister, Treva Kocher; and parents, Robert and Eudella (Miller) Tussing.
Phyllis loved her family, friends, books, and music. Even though she went through many difficult times in her life, she had the support of family and friends. They literally surrounded her with caring and devotion. She maintained her wonderful sense of humor and was able to laugh at herself.
A memorial service officiated by Rev. Jill Dunlap will take place on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 3 PM in the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 207 S Main St., Baltimore, OH 43105.
