Richard "Ben" B. VanGundy

Richard Benson “Ben” VanGundy, 81, was born in Lancaster, Ohio September 12, 1942. He passed away at Fairfield Medical Center on Monday, January 8, 2024. 

Ben was a lifetime member of Grace United Church of Christ, and a lifetime member and former past Master of Lancaster Masonic Lodge #57.

Ben’s life was his work; be it with Local 189 as a journeyman plumber and pipefitter or foreman on jobs for 189 that took him all over central Ohio. He retired in 2002 to live in Rushville and raise Belgian Draft horses. 

Ben is survived by his wife of 42 years; Jo Ellen; son Zac (Columbus); and granddaughter Briella Hope (Columbus); sister Patty Ann (Frank J.) Middendorf (Florida); and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Viola VanGundy; and son Benny VanGundy. 

At Ben’s request there will be no services. Frank E. Smith Funeral Home of Lancaster is assisting with burial in Forest Rose Cemetery.
