Richard "Dick" Clarence Carpenter

Richard “Dick” Clarence Carpenter 86 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Pickering House after complications from a fall at home.

Dick was born on March 12, 1940, in Willard, Ohio to Raymond Chester Carpenter and Pauline Ruth (Ballard) Carpenter. Dick graduated from Jackson High School and then went on to serve in the Army National Guard Reserve of Ohio. After discharge, he and his brother Fred joined their father in farming and raising Guernsey cows. The farm, Carpenter Brothers Dairy Farm was located on Burchey Road outside of Baltimore. After the farm was sold, Dick went on to work at Pickerington Schools and then onto Etna Schools as a custodian. When he retired from the school systems, he continued to work part time at various places. Over the next few years, he worked at Fairfield Medical Center, Target and then Giant Eagle, when he decided he was getting too old and tired to continue to work at the age of 77.

He loved country music, watching football, basketball and baseball. Dick especially loved the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. He loved to bake and was known for his cakes, brownies and oatmeal cookies.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Waneta Burt, Alberta (Sheldon) Winner and Fred (Lucille) Carpenter, nephew, Mark Winner and nieces, Jennifer Brookover and Robin Caudy. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. in the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, BALTIMORE, OHIO with Rev. Brian Dillahunt officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friend may visit from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.
