Robert E. Loy

September 15, 1925 — September 21, 2025

Robert E. Loy, a spirited soul with a heart full of laughter, departed from this world on September 21, 2025 at the age of 100 He was surrounded by his loving children at his residence as he passed. Born in Lancaster, on September 15, 1925, Bob lived a life rich with dedication, humor, and a zest for engaging those around him in the most delightful ways.

Bob's unwavering service to his country as a proud member of the US Marines during World War II saw him bravely participating in the Asian Pacific Theater, notably in the harrowing battle of Iwo Jima. His experiences during those turbulent times forged not just a resilient warrior but also a man with an enduring appreciation for life that he shared generously with family and friends.

After his military service, Bob dedicated himself to making a difference within his community, retiring as a postal clerk from the US Postal Service, where he remained a steadfast member of the Postal Union. His spirited nature continued to shine through his involvement with the 6th Avenue United Methodist Church, where his playful antics—often involving practical jokes aimed at the minister and secretaries—brought joy and laughter to all.

Musically inclined, Bob found joy in strumming his Hawaiian guitar or Lap Slide guitar, often captivating audiences with the melodies that echoed his love for life and creativity. His playful persona was unmistakably “ornery,” a charming quality that made him a beloved figure to many. His infectious laughter and ability to bring smiles to those around him were hallmarks of his character, ensuring he was always at the center of joy-filled gatherings.

Family held the utmost importance in Bob's heart, with his greatest pride resting in his children—Vickie J. (Dana) Widener, Fred (Connie) Loy, and Mark Loy—and the extensive legacy they form together. He delighted in the joys of being a grandfather to Scott (Natalie) Widener, Brian (Shasta) Widener, A.J. (Christine) Loy, Aimee (Chad) Smith, Victoria (Simon) Bec, and James Logan Loy, and a great-grandfather to: Jack, Julia, Luke, Crew, Faith, Cecelia, Oakley, Alanna, Callum Widener, Brooke and Brody Smith, and Hayden Loy.

Though Bob leaves behind a legacy brimming with memories, he is welcomed into the arms of those who passed before him; his beloved wife, Eileen Loy, greatly missed, his cherished great-grandchild, Jude Thomas Widener, his brother, Arthur Junior Loy, and his parents, Arthur Sr. and Grace Eades Loy.

In the quiet of his passing, the echoes of laughter and the warmth of his jovial spirit linger poignantly, a true testament to a life lived fully and joyously. Bob's memory will forever be a cherished tale retold among those who knew his heart and shared in the light he brought into their lives.

To honor Bob's wishes, a private visitation and service will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations in Bob's name can be made to FairHoPe Hospice 282 Sells Rd. Lancaster, OH 43130. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
