Ruth M. Azbell-Hightower, a woman of enduring grace and incomparable kindness, was called to her eternal rest on May 1, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on March 11, 1932, Ruth led a life rich in service, love, and unfaltering dedication to her family and friends.

Ruth's professional journey began after her graduation from the LHS class of 1950 and the Office Training School of Columbus. She devoted an impressive 33 years of her life to City Loan Services as an assistant manager, where her warmth and genuine nature made every interaction special. Renowned for treating every individual as a dear friend, she exemplified the true essence of a lady, embodying class and integrity in all her endeavors.

Ruth was not only a devoted professional but also a cherished member of the Lancaster community, contributing her time and talent to numerous organizations. She was an active participant in the Lancaster United Brethren Church, where she was a stalwart member of the Christian Builders Sunday School Class. Her leadership shone through her roles as a former board member and chairperson of Communion and Praise and the Celebration Choir. Ruth was also a proud member of the Anchorettes and the Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority, where her spirit of camaraderie and fellowship resonated deeply.

At home, Ruth's greatest pride came from her beloved family, which she cherished above all else. Additionally, she delighted in being a great-great-grandmother to Rhett Nelson and twins Asher and Quill. Ruth's sisters, Irene Congrove Mecchi and Nita Paxton, along with her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Leslie Congrove, remain to carry forth the legacy of her love, alongside numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth is now reunited in spirit with her late husband, Grover “Rusty” Nelson Azbell, with whom she shared an extraordinary bond for 56½ years before his passing in 2008. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Azbell, her parents Albert and Evamae “Mimi” Stoughton Congrove, her niece Julianne Keller, and beloved in-laws Ronald K. Paxton, Joseph and Grace Azbell, and Peter J. Mecchi Sr.
