Ruth E. Davis

Ruth E. Davis, 97, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at her residence. She was born on Friday, August 24, 1928, to the late Rennie and Eleanor Davis in Youngstown, Ohio. Ruth married Charles C. Davis Jr in 1951 while he was in the Navy, and they moved to California, settling in San Diego. After spending time there, they moved to Michigan and then eventually came to Ohio, settling in Lancaster.

Traveling across the country was something Ruth loved to do; going from the West Coast to the East Coast numerous times. She visited Mt. Rushmore, Devil’s Tower, Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone. She traveled to Hawaii with her husband, Charles, and her twin brother, Rennie, in September of 1998. Ruth also enjoyed going to Newport, Rhode Island, and walking along the beach, looking for and finding wave-polished stones and seashells. Her best-loved activity was going outside and working in her flower gardens. She loved her yard and tried very hard to stay ahead of all the weeds. Even at 97 years old, Ruth was outside weeding, trimming back her Rose of Sharon and daisies. She got “lost” in another world of beauty when tending to her gardens of cone flowers, hostas, columbine, and roses. She even had a tomato garden she enjoyed working in. She was very fond of all birds that visited her at home, including hummingbirds, yellow finches, cardinals, and woodpeckers. Ruth was fond of jigsaw puzzles as they would help pass the time. Every morning, she would complete the crossword puzzles and cryptograms in the newspaper. An avid watcher of “Dancing with the Stars”, she would write down the performers' scores every week and cheer on her favorites. Ruth was a bowler her entire adult life, and she shared her love for bowling with her grandson, Kirk. She also enjoyed looking for covered bridges with her daughter, Carol Jean.

Ruth is survived by her twin brother, Rennie Davis; children, Cheryl Haminger and Charles C. (Lori) Davis III; grandchildren, Kirk (Brandi) Haminger, Kent (Jamie) Sypniewski, Amanda (Michael) Beringer, Lindsay (Michael) Fournier, Kimberly (Joshua) Nicholson, and Steven Sypniewski; great-grandchildren, Cadence and Sean Sypniewski, Addison and Levi Beringer, Liam Fournier, Seth and Carolyn Joy Nicholson and cousins, Lynn Dolanch, Susan Kyle, and Bill Davis. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles C. Davis Jr, daughter and son-in-law, Carol Jean (David) Sypniewski, and parents, Rennie F. Davis Sr, and Eleanor (Steele) Davis.
