Ruth L. Shafer

Ruth L. Shafer 82 of Pleasantville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Fairfield Medical Center. She was born in St. Paris, Ohio on February 14, 1944 to the late Charles and Nina Scott.

She was a graduate of Graham Local High School, St. Paris: attended Urbana College and The Ohio State University. Ruth was retired from the Frand E. Smith Funeral Home as the office manager.

Ruth was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Baltimore, Lancaster Community Chorus and Antique Automobile Club of America.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Michael P.; brother, Phillip C. Scott of Poway, CA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jeannette (Wayne) McDonald, Sharon (George) Rumery all of Pataskala and Linda (Mike) Jordan of Columbus; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald (Mary Rogers) Shafer of Williamsburg, VA and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray and Goldie Ward, sister, Kay Blair and a sister-in-law, Kathryn Scott.

Funeral service will be held Monday, August 17, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130. with Rev. Jill Dunlap officiating. A private burial will be in Waldo Cemetery, Waldo, OH. Friends may visit Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
