Sandra "Sandi" Kay Mickey

Sandra Kay Mickey, 60, of Bexley, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

Sandi was born April 17th, 1966, to Mary Joyce Neff and Todd Eggleston in Bexley, Ohio. Sandi grew up in two places she called home, one in Bexley and one in Alabama, where she spent every summer from age seven. She graduated from Bexley High School in 1984 and married her soulmate, Dwain Mickey, the following year. Together, they built their life and raised their children in the same community they both grew up in. Once her sons were grown and building families of their own, Sandi and Dwain fulfilled their dream of living in their cabin in the woods at Hideaway Hills, a place that quickly became home. She especially loved the wildlife that surrounded her, from the deer that visited her yard each day to the countless birds she enjoyed watching until her final days. Sandi had a deep love for her dogs and could often be found enjoying her garden and the simple joys of being at home. For Sandi, it was the perfect place to call home with her loving husband.

Sandi was the kind of person who made an impact on everyone she met. She had a gift for making friends wherever she went and never met a stranger. Her warmth, kindness, humor, and genuine love for others made her someone people were naturally drawn to. She was, simply put, one of the best kinds of people.

She took great pride in her work and started her professional journey at Nationwide Children’s Hospital more than 35 years ago. She began her career in 1990 rocking NICU babies, where her drive, passion and commitment led her through multiple roles, including ER tech, EMT, LifeFlight tech, OR tech, suture tech, anesthesia tech, then after 25 years of clinical service, moved to the administrative side as the Director of Purchasing and Supply Chain Analytics. In this role, she was able to have long-lasting impact on patients and staff throughout the organization she cherished so much. She loved the people she worked with and the work she did, forming friendships and connections that remained an important part of her life.

Above all else, Sandi’s greatest love and highest priority was her family. She spent her life putting the people she loved before herself, always making sure they were cared for, supported, and loved.

Sandi is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Dwain Mickey; her children, Shane (Hayley) Mickey, and Corey (Becca) Mickey; and her three cherished grandchildren, Addison, Ava, and Connor, who brought her immeasurable joy. She is also survived by her sister, Debbie (Bob) Cassel; sister-in-law, Jessica (Randy) Bartimus; sister-in-law, Sherry Mickey; her adored cousin, Sandy Poe, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and her faithful dogs, Jack and Judy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Joyce Neff and Todd Eggleston, her parents-in-law, James and Grace Mickey, and her soul dog, Popeye.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Central Ohio for the care, compassion, and support they provided to Sandi and her loved ones during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to plant a tree in Sandi’s memory or make a donation to your local animal shelter, a cause close to her heart. And for those who knew Sandi well, you know she never cared much for cut flowers. If you feel inclined to send flowers, please send a living plant that can continue to grow for years to come.

A funeral service for family and close friends will be held on August 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 29439 Hide Away Hills Rd., Logan, Ohio.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 29, 2026, from 1:00pm-3:00pm, at the Living Hope Church of Pataskala, 9286 York Rd. SW, Pataskala, OH, 43062 to honor Sandi and celebrate the many lives she touched throughout her life. All who knew and loved Sandi are welcome to join us.

Sandi leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories, friendships, and the countless lives she touched simply by being herself. Sandi will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the way she made others feel: Loved, welcomed, and cared for. Her kindness and love were given freely to everyone around her, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
