Shirley Jean Evans

Shirley Jean Evans, 84, of Jacksonville, NC, and formerly of Baltimore, OH, passed away on May 17, 2022. She was born to the late Howard and Wilma Lafferre on August 18, 1937.

Shirley was a caregiver at heart, raising 19 children as a foster parent to whom she provided safety, shelter, and food. She was active in her church, and enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels, and her local Senior Center. Shirley also was a member of her Senior Bowling League.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Jerri Gray (Steve); son, Doug (Rebecca) Evans; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Gene” Evans; and her parents.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Baltimore.
