Steven M. Burk

April 21, 1960 — January 9, 2026

Columbus

Steven M. Burk, 65, of Columbus, Ohio, passed peacefully on January 9, 2026 after a brave battle with terminal illness. Born on April 21, 1960, in Beech Grove, Indiana, Steve was the beloved son of the late Ronald L. and Beverly (Adams) Burk. He grew up on the south side of Indianapolis, in Fountain Square, IN, where his roots and love for family were firmly planted.

As a young man, Steve ventured west and spent ten years in Van Nuys, California, where he

began his lifelong career in the commercial glass industry with San Fernando Valley Glass.

Eventually, his love for family drew him back to the Midwest, where he settled in Ohio. There, Steve continued his career with Anderson Glass and The Glassworks, places where he was grateful to form many lasting friendships that meant so much to him.

Steve had a deep passion for anything with a motor. He was even coined ‘Speedy Steve’ after his love for the Indy 500, the Brickyard and the racetrack. If it involved grease, tools, or time spent in the garage, he was happiest there. He enjoyed spending countless hours designing and building unique creations in his garage workshop and was especially passionate about his vintage Willy’s Jeep projects. He took great pride in riding his vintage Harley-Davidson police bike around town and enjoyed the annual trek to Daytona Beach, FL, for Bike Week with his brother and best friend, Doug, along with his nephews and friends who were able to join through the years.

A natural storyteller with a gift for making others laugh; he was also known to be a man of few words and always a genuine listener. He had a caring heart that was bigger than himself—one that his family will continue to carry with them as they adjust to life without.

Steve is survived by his siblings, Robin Matutino, Doug Burk, and Dana Winegarner; and by his four nieces and seven nephews, along with their families, all of whom will miss him deeply. Though he never had children of his own, Steve took immense pride in being an involved and loving uncle. From fixing broken dirt bikes and installing a new motor in his nephew’s first car, to early Saturday mornings spent camping, fishing by a pond, target shooting, and riding dirt bikes, Jeeps, and Harleys. Steve was always eager to share time, knowledge, and adventure with those he loved.

Steve fought a courageous 15-month battle with aggressive kidney cancer and could not have done so without the unwavering support of his family and friends. He was deeply appreciative of those who stepped in to help, visited, or simply reached out for a phone conversation, and he expressed sincere gratitude for each and every one of you.

Honoring Steve’s wishes, Caring Cremation® has taken place, and his family plans to hold a Celebration of life this spring.

Love you, brother. You will be greatly missed, SteveO.
