Sue A. Barber

January 28, 1938 — January 8, 2026

Lancaster

Sue A. Barber, 87, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 8, 2026. She was born on January 28, 1938, to the late Robert and Clara Barnhart.

Sue attended St. Mary Catholic School in her youth and remained a devoted member of the Catholic Church throughout her adult life.

Sue dedicated more than 30 years of service to Fairfield National Bank as a loan officer. She was honored with the Athena Award in 1990. She and her husband, John Widener, owned and operated Suzanne’s Art Gallery in downtown Lancaster, a place that reflected her creativity and love for the arts.

In 1994, she married George Barber and moved to San Diego, California, where she spent the next two decades traveling the world and living life to the fullest.

An avid golfer, she proudly achieved a hole-in-one at her favorite course. She also found great joy in giving, gardening, cooking, savoring a good glass of wine, and, most of all, spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren.

In 2016, Sue returned to Lancaster, where her passion for the arts and community once again came to life. She renovated a downtown building and opened Suzannah’s Gallery and Taproom, leaving a lasting impact on the revitalization of downtown Lancaster.

She is survived by her children, Kevin (Christi) Hall, Robin Hall, and Craig (Elizabeth) Hall; grandchildren, Ryan Hall, Connor (Emily) Hall, Derek (Rachael) Hall, Whitney (Ryan Roseberry) Hall, Marissa (Colin) Crawford, and Justin Cox; great-grandchildren, Torren Hall, Hadley Hall, Beckham Hall, Nolan Roseberry, Ryatt Crawford, Meela Roseberry, Melody Hall; and her sister, Sharon (Myles) Shafer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, John Widener and George C. Barber; her brothers, Robert J. Barnhart and Michael D. Barnhart; and sister in law, Joyce Barnhart.
