Virginia Marie Parobeck, 63, died on Monday, July 14, 2025 under the care of Fairhope Hospice at the Arbors of Carroll. Her health had deteriorated due to diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, schizophrenia, and dementia.
Virginia was born on December 12, 1961, the fifth of six children, to the late Daniel and Lois Parobeck.
She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1980 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the Ohio Technical College in Nelsonville, OH. She received her Bachelors in Eastern European Studies from Athens, OH. She worked as a neuro nurse at the Cleveland Clinic and as a hospice nurse at Fairhope, the Pickering House.
Her real passion was in Slovak Studies. She volunteered at the Slovak Institute in Cleveland. She wrote magazine articles, book reviews and made trips to Czechoslovakia to see her ancestors’ hometown.
Virginia is survived by sisters Sandra and Deanna Parobeck, nephews Benjamin Henderson and Derek (Maurin) Shaffer, and great-nephew, Dominic Shaffer.
She is preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Lois Parobeck, siblings Michael and Daniel Parobeck and Renee Shaffer, brothers-in-law David Kadetz, Randall Shaffer and George Henderson, nephews Zane and Nate Kadetz and missing person Brian Shaffer.
A memorial service will be private. Caring Cremation® is taking place through the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home.
