Wilbur C. Welch 73 of Pickerington, Ohio former resident of Lancaster, Ohio died Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Fairfield Medical Center. He was the Fire Chief for the Lancaster Fire Department, retiring after 27 years of service. He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters, operated Wilbur C. Welch Lawn Care, sat on the Violet Cemetery Board and enjoyed deer hunting. He is survived by his companion of 20 years, Anita LeGrand of Pickerington, Ohio; 4 daughters, Glenna Ankrom of Pleasantville, Ohio, Rhonda (Tim) Brown, Vickie Simms, and Amy Steele all of Lancaster, Ohio; 9 grandchildren, Sarah Treitmaier, Tiffany (Brian) Sunderland, Heather (Josh) Colopy, Bethany Ankrom, Ashley Simms, Ryan Ankrom, Brandon Simms, Noah Steele, and Lauren Steele; 8 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Carol Welch of Baltimore, Ohio, Patsy (Dale) Truex of Tennessee, Diane Morris of Lancaster, Ohio, and Lu Ann Welch of Baltimore, Ohio; 2 brothers, Paul (Malia) Welch of Texas and Neal (Donna) Welch of Lancaster, Ohio; many nieces, nephews, and 2 canine companions. A thank you goes to the staff of Fairfield Medical Center for their care of Wilbur. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Myrtle Welch. Funeral service will be held Monday, November 29, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL AND CREMATORY, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with David Tingler officiating. Caring Cremation to follow the service. Burial will be in Violet Cemetery at a later date. Friends may visit Sunday, 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
