William "Buzz" Bircher

William “Buzz” Bircher, age 61, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Buzz was a passionate bass fisherman who found joy and peace in the stillness of the water and the thrill of the catch. A devoted sports fan, he proudly cheered on the Miami Dolphins and the Ohio State Buckeyes- never missing a game and always ready with a strong opinion and a hopeful heart.

His loyal dog, Shadow, was never far from his side and remained his faithful companion until the end.

Buzz is survived by his loving wife, Paula Bircher; his son Tony (Melissa) Bircher of Corolla, North Carolina; grandsons Dalton Bircher of South Bloomfield, Ohio, and Kai Cofer and Bryce Bircher of Corolla, North Carolina. He is also survived by his son, Dusty DeLong of Asheville, Ohio; his daughter Amanda (Curtis) Antil; granddaughters Megan, Jaci, and Makayla Mathis, and grandson Rocky V. Kern III, all of Lancaster, Ohio; his great-grandsons Max and Myles Bledsoe brought him tremendous joy.

Buzz also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Sarah Hunt of Lancaster, and Billy Mathis of Grand Prairie, Texas. He was blessed with many special friendships, especially his fishing buddies John (Carolyn) Harter, Jason Harter, and Sean Hupp.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Helen Mills; his parents, Mae and Ralph Bircher; father-in-law, Kenneth Hunt; mother-in-law, Gwendolyn (Ann) Hunt; and his son, Rocky V. Kern Sr.

Family and friends may visit from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Friday, June 27, 2025 in the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 N. Columbus St. Lancaster, Ohio 43130. Caring Cremation® will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home to help with the cost of services.

Buzz will be remembered for his love of family, sports enthusiasm, and the memories made on and off the water. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
