D. Eugene "Gene" Slone

D. Eugene "Gene" Slone, age 90 passed away at his residence on June 14th, 2021.  He was born to the late Harkless and Lora Bevins Slone on Jan. 26, 1931 in Ulysses, KY.  He worked for Jeffery Mining for 35+ years, he was a member of New Zion United Methodist Church and a past member of the Masonic Lodge #858.  He enjoyed woodworking and word searches but enjoyed spending time with his family the most. Gene's upbeat personality and amazing smile will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Lora J. Owsley; grandchildren, Erica Naprawa, Jeanette (Chad) Queen, and Joshua Slone; great-grandchildren, Domonic and Aria Slone; daughters-in-law, Lynn and Susan Slone; sister, Delores Scarberry; several nieces and nephews; special neighbors, Andy Ety and Paul Phillips; and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Slone; sons, Larry E. and Paul E. Slone; siblings, Paul, Herman, Dolph, and Norma Slone; and parents.
A funeral service will take place at 2PM on Wednesday, June 23rd at New Zion United Methodist Church. It will also be streamed live at the time of service through Facebook Live.  This can be viewed via the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home Facebook Page at the start of the service. . Burial will follow at Union Evangelical Cemetery.  Family and friends may call from 4PM until 8PM on Tuesday at the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home.  Donations can be made in Gene's name to Fairhope Hospice, 282 Sells Rd.
