JoAnne Shandy “Jody” Peterseim, age 93, died peacefully Wednesday, May 17, 2023 in her apartment at Bickford Senior Assisted Living. Family, friends, and staff were able to say good bye. She was surrounded by love, and maintained her dignity and grace, when she was called home. She was born September 12, 1929, in Leon, Iowa, to Lida Belle Inbody Shandy and Harry Benoa Shandy.
JoAnne moved to Westerville, Ohio in 1940. She attended North High School, Columbus, Ohio where she was a proud Arro in the Arro Club, swam on the Ladies Synchronized Swim Team and graduated in 1947. She attended The Ohio State University.
JoAnne met Walter Francis Peterseim in Columbus, Ohio in 1948 and they were married in 1949. She worked at Starling Junior High School in Columbus as a secretary. Jody and Walt lived in the Olentangy Village apartments. They moved to Lancaster in 1951. They were married for 58 years and raised their family of four children in Lancaster. Jody was a loving mom and wife, first and foremost. She and Dad will always be remembered and missed and held close to heart.
Jody was active in many community activities, including Lifetime membership in the Froebel Study Club; Cameo League; Meals-On-Wheels; Lifetime member of OSU Alumni Association;
Lancaster Hospital TWIG #3; Parent’s League; Fairfield Heritage Association; the Decorative Arts Center; Cub Scout Leader; Bluebird Leader, and the We Care Corner at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Jody is survived by her four children Walter Francis “Chip” Peterseim III (Meg), Jeffrey Bradley Peterseim, Jody Susan Peterseim Baxter (Paul), and Douglas Shandy Peterseim (Sarah) all of Lancaster. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Walter Francis “Zane” Peterseim IV (Laura) of Albany, CA, Chasen Franclyn Peterseim, Eli Bradley Peterseim (Deaven), Katrina Anne Peterseim all of Lancaster, Rachael JoAnne Baxter, Mary Francis Baxter of Columbus, and Keegan Kelly Peterseim of Kingston. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marguerite
Peterseim, Nashville, TN. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, three nieces, three nephews, and her dear friend from elementary school, Maury Halstead of Lincoln, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walt in 2008; her sisters Mildred Elizabeth (Vernon) Peterson, and Marjory Lucille (Kelly) Laughead, her parents, her in-laws Walter Francis Peterseim and Mary Esther Peterseim, sister-in-law Rhea (Ralph) Stickney, brothers-in-law Daun (Dorothy) Peterseim and Lee Peterseim and many Lancaster friends.
Jody’s family wishes to thank the office of Dr. Judith Bratton, MD, for their care and support. The family also wishes to thank all dietary staff and healthcare professionals who have chosen as their profession to care for the elderly. Your kindnesses, honesty, respect and dignity for all, will always be remembered.
Caring Cremation® has taken place by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, LANCASTER, OHIO. Family will receive friends on, Friday, May 26, 2023 from 11am-noon at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with a memorial service to follow with the Rev. Diana K. Gugel officiating. A private inurnment will take place at Forest Rose Cemetery with the family. Contributions in Jody’s honor can be made to the Froebel Study Club, C/O Judy Custer, Treasurer, 127 Mulberry Street, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
