Originally, George Sterling Smith had a funeral home in Pataskala, Ohio. His son, Frank E. Smith, followed in his father's footsteps and also became a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Frank met his wife, Myrtle Ginder, who was the second woman in the state of Ohio to be a licensed embalmer and funeral director in Lancaster. He moved to Lancaster and started the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home. His son, Dr. Irvine Ginder Smith, went to Ohio State and became an optometrist. Irvine served in WWII and then decided to go back home and follow in his father's footsteps and went to Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Irvine's son Frank R. Smith also followed with the family's heritage and is a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Frank's son, F. (Frank) Eric Smith is now the fifth generation funeral director and embalmer here in Lancaster. Serving the community for 5 generations.
